Radomness: Upcoming Events, I'll be at and Some Trailers

Think of this as one of those times, I that I have a couple of things that I wanna talk about. So, I made a post to cover it all, rather quickly.

First off next week, marks my return to my home away from home, Las Vegas, as well, as my return to the Adult Entertainment Expo (haven't been to either or since 2011). I will be covering it for this site. I have some really cool interviews set up, that I think you guys will love. That said, I will be really busy at and out of the show, with coverage for this site. I ain't sure how much time I'll have to enjoy Sin City, itself, probably not much. But, the show, itself, is hell of fun, and everything I have lined up is pretty freaking awesome. So, I'm very excited.

Kristine Rose, from my very first day, at my very first AEE back in 2011 when I covered was there covering it.

Next month, I will be at Toy Fair. Not sure what days yet, though, I have some vague ideas, but I'll be covering that, too. Toy Fair is always fun and considerably relaxed. No hot porn stars in short shorts, though.

Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead remains a terrifying, gore-drenched, unrated horror classic. Though, over-shadowed by it's amazing, first sequel, the original remains a solid and excellent exercise in unrelenting splatter. Baring that in mind, I had no desire to see the remake, much less since it has no Bruce Campbell. The first two trailers did shit to make me think differently, but low and behold the second red-band trailer comes out and my jaw drops. Now, I wanna see this fucker! It looks brutally serious and gory. Haven't seen the trailer or want to relive it? Here it is:

And, speaking of horror trailers, here is this random German one, I found the other night. The movie is called Cannibal Diner, and it really doesn't look very good. In fact, it looks like a cheap Texas Chainsaw Massacre (which reminds me, I've yet to see the new one, but with Vegas coming up not sure when I will...) rip-off. But, it does seem to be gory and have hot girls. Oh, and hot girls making out. That's always a plus. The Germans tend to do their gore real brutal and nasty in movies that are usually cheap and sleazy. So, there is a degree of curiosity in me. But, with A LOT of reserve and low expectations. Any thoughts?

Finally for those of you who demand more skin, I have the SFW trailer of to Sweet Sinner's The Stripper. It's couples porn starring the gorgeous Jennifer White playing a housewife who becomes a stripper to help the bad stituation that her and her dickhead hubby are in. Hey, it's porn with a current soci-political message for these bad economic times! It also has THE quote of the wk: "If your not gonna wear the pants around here, at least let me take mine off"

Hot Asian Girl of the Month: Asami Sugiura

Since it's October, I figured the Hot Asian Girl of the Month should be someone who has starred in her fair share of horror movies. So, I give to you the beautiful Asami Sugiura (AKA Asami Miyjima and simply Asami).

She was born in Tokyo, Japan in Sept. 19, 1985. She is 5.25 feet tall.


She made her acting debut at age 19 in Kiss Me or Kill Me. Then, in March 2005, she appeared in a gravure (non-sex) video called Wash Me. She made her AV (adult video) in April 2005 in In Love. She did many adult videos, but gained a larger world-wide, cult following due to her work in splatter films.


Her first of these films was the silly and wonderfully exploitative Sukaban Boy from Noburo Iguchi. She reteamed with the director for his best and best known movie, the ultra-gory The Machine Girl. This is one of my favorite films, and the best in this sub-genre I feel. It was also the first time I saw her. Man, I fell in love immediately!!!

Another one I really liked from her was the wild and over-the-top sex and gore filled horror-comedy Horny House of Horror. Sadly, this one ain't on region 1 DVD or blu-ray, even though my friend and I saw it last year at the Asian film festival in NY. I definitely need to see her other gore flicks! If any of you have seen them, let me know which other ones you liked or didn't for that matter.

 

Asami is simply gorgeous! She has a nice face with beautiful big, almond eyes. She also has a hot body with nice sized boobs, hot legs, a cute ass, and a sexy bush. It's easy to see why Asian girl loving horror fans such as myself, love her so much!

A Videodrome Remake?! Seriously?! WTF?!

Remakes are, sadly, nothing new these days. And, I always groan when I hear of a new one. But, this latest one is perhaps the worst I've ever heard. It certainly would rank as one of the worst movie news I've heard this year, if not in fact THE worst. The dumbasses at Universal are remaking David Cronenberg's horror/ sci-fi masterpiece Videodrome. Wait what?! 

Videodrome has long been considered one of Cronenberg's best films (some years ago I picked his best work, check out my list here: http://themastergio.blogspot.com/2008/08/top-5-david-cronenberg-films.html). While, he has gone decidedly mainstream, he was, at this point in time, one of horror's most exciting, intelligent, and original directors. Videodrome is certainly a prime example of this. It tells of the tale of Max Renn (James Woods) who discovers a channel where violence and S&M are aired. He is determined to fined the source. His investigation will lead to fetishistic sex, hallucinations, and, literally, mind-blowing violence.

Smart, violent, shocking, and sexy, the movie was a box office bomb, at the time. It was way to ahead of it's time. It's a deep movie with comments on sex and violence, the effect it may have on us, TV & media, the video age, and what is real and fantasy. The gruesome effects, coupled with the lovely Debbie Harry's naked body, help to further push the limits on it. Today the movie is considered a classic, and it's one that you cannot just see once. Each and every viewing is better than the last, hence it always remains a fascinating watch.

The remake, to be helmed by first time director Adam Berg, promises to be a large scale action sci-fi thriller. Huh?! Seriously?! Have these fuckers even seen Videodrome?! The net is filled with the rage of Cronenberg and horror fans who wanna beat Universal's asses for this terrible, terrible idea. At this rate, they are aiming for the level of shit of remakes like The Omen, The Fog, and Psycho. In short: FUCK YOU UNIVERSAL!

Rue Morgue #123

 

Much like Fangoria #314, this month's Rue Morgue #123 has the same ad wherein I and several others are quoted for our review of the ass kicking Dear God No!. Being in my all time favorite magazine, horror or otherwise, is fucking awesome!! And, hopefully someday, I'll have an article in this magnificent mag, as well.

As always this issue of Rue Morgue is filled with some truly awesome shit!! First off, the cover, is always the case with them, is cool as hell. The film featured on the cover, The Loved Ones, has been getting a lot of great word of mouth and looks to be a great, sick flick from the land Down Under. 

Also, covered in this issue are:

The Mar Attacks cards (who are coming back a;long with a comic book)- it's really cool to hear one of the people involved with the original, gory, classic card set and his disappointment with the Tim Burton flick based on them. Can't blame him. I always hated that film and wished it was the gorefest it was meant to be!

Lollipop Chainsaw, which happens to be one of my most anticipated games. I hope it's worth all the hype. It certianly is made with the right kind of love, as the cheerleader's outfit says San Romero's Knights. And, it's written by James (Slither) Gunn. Coincidentally, there was a cutie cosplaying as the lead character from the game at Anime Next, a con I went to this Saturday in New Jersey. A pic of her can be found below this:

Plus interviews with Marduk, whose new album The Serpent Sermon is one of the best, if not the best black metal album, I heard this year, so far. And, Garbage Pail Kids style art provided by GPK artist Tom Bunk for the promotional art for grandgore band Cattle Decapitation. Their newest album, Monolith of Inhumanity, is pure brutality!! And, GPK fucking rules so, it's a match made in heaven. Or hell, depending on how you look at it.

My Love Letter to Aliens

WARNING: SPOLIERS ABOUND!

With the sort of Alien prequel Prometheus opening this Friday, I thought it would be a great time to talk about what is not only my favorite entry in the series, but also my favorite sequel ever made as well as my second favorite movie of all time: James Cameron's Aliens.

Aliens takes place 57 years after what occurred in the first sci-fi/ horror classic. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) wakes-up from hyper sleep, when her ship is found floating in space. She is haunted by nightmares and learns that her daughter is dead. But, a space colony has been set-up on the planet where she her crew encountered the acid bleeding beast. When contact is lost with the colony, she is asked to help space marines go in and help the colonists. She agrees, only under the condition that they wipe out the monster. When, they get there, they find hundreds of them, as well as a new terror in the form of the giant and deadly Queen Alien.

Aliens is one of those movies that when I first saw it; it made me wanna make movies. It remains one of those films that changed my life. While, I like and deeply respect Ridley Scott's terrifying Alien, this movie blew that film away. I always felt, that this is one of those very rare sequels, that manage to top their classic first film. It's a superior movie in every way. One, that never fails to leave me with my jaw dropped, no matter how many time I seen it.

And, I seen it many, many times. One of the few movies (the only other two are Scarface and Hellraiser) I've owned in every format imaginable: VHS, LD, DVD, and now blu-ray (given to me as a gift for my birthday, May 29th). I watched it on blu-ray last night, and man, it looks and sounds amazing, better than ever! I've preferred the director's cut, since I first saw it on LD ages ago. It's the only way I watch, the movie. It's a longer and, I think better cut. It makes a great film, even better. 

Once the action starts it rarely lets up. It moves at a breathtaking pace with some of the most exhilarating action scenes ever caught on film. That said, it never though forgets it's horror connection, and remains quite scary. Much of that fear revolves around Ripley finding and becoming surrogate mother to Newt (Carrie Henn), a little orphan, whose parents were wiped out by the alien creatures. We don't want anything to happen to this little girl. Weaver's performance as the tough, but badass motherly figure shines here. It's this heart of the movie that takes it well beyond the brainless action film it could have been.

Also, adding to the heart of the film is the relationship between Ripley and Cpl. Hicks. It never feels forced and works perfectly. Rounding out the cast is the amazing Lance Henrikson as the good hearted android, Bishop, Bill Paxtons' wonderfully quotable Hudson ("Game over, man! Game over!"), Janet Goldstein's tough chica Pvt. Vasquez, and Paul Rieser's sleazy and despicable Carter Burke. Burke is truly one of horror's biggest assholes. Ever!

This is one of my major reasons why I despise Alien 3 sooo much. To kill Bishop and Hicks is bad enough, but to kill Newt is a sin. You just destroyed the heart of the second film. It shits on everything this movie accomplished. That that sequel is stupid and uninvolving surely doesn't help either. Thank God, director David Fincher went to better things!

Back to Aliens. There is also the pounding and driving score by James Horner. The music gives the movie the perfect mix of military, horror, and the grandiose. The music played during the movie's most exhilarating scenes remain one of my favorites ever.

The FX work by Stan Winston is jaw-dropping. The creatures look amazing. And the Queen, she's a sight to behold. Big, scary, and nasty. The movie doesn't flinch on gore either, surpassing the splatter of the first film. Blood is splattered, people get blasted with acid blood, a chestbuster rips out of a victim, and aliens explode on camera. But, it's Bishop's implaing/ bisection that is the coupe-de-grade of the movie. It is one of the most spectacular in the history of cinema.

Heavily influenced by the Vietnam War (something clearly important to Cameron as he wrote Rambo: First Blood part II), Aliens is THE perfect mix of sci-fi, horror, and action. It is a movie that I will always hold near and dear to my heart. Even when I feel shitty, I pop this one in and it makes me feel better, exhilarated and ready to kick some ass. Cameron was one of my movie making heroes. Along with Terminator 2, as well as Terminator and even Piranha 2: The Spawning, I looked up to his style. Now, not so much. Oh, well. But, regardless this film, called by my hero and late-great horror critic Chas. Balun, "as perhaps the greatest monster movie ever made", is fucking god on film. All hail Aliens and remember: "Get away from her, you bitch!"

An accident has led to the zombie apocalypse. Two survivors in Reno, Neveda, who had a past relationship with each other, hide in a casino. They must now battle the flesh hungry hoards of the living dead.

This is an adaptation of Steve (30 Days of Night) Niles' comic of the same made by horror cable channel, Chiller TV as their first feature. I have never read the Niles' comic, so I'm going to rate this one on it's own merits.

With that said, I find this movie to be highly derivative of many other zombie movies. The movie has fast zombies, and then at the climax faster zombies, which I loathe, and they clearly ripped off from the Dawn of the Dead remake. Throw in the whole, "hey we're trapped in one place" and the military popping up and you have a film that pillages from all of the major movies of this kind that you can think of. I will say this, though, I wouldn't mind getting stuck in a nice casino/ hotel (though I would pick Vegas over Reno). In fact, I think I might enjoy getting stuck in there even more than I would at a mall!

The new things it adds to the zombie mythos are that zombies do in fact sleep, albeit standing up, and that they eat other are not particularly interesting. That last point leads me to say this, I thought zombies don't cannibalize each other because they prefer fresh meat. Oh well, I guess this movie ignores that or has decided to change that. Whatever.

To it's advantage there is some good acting, more so from our two leads. Miko Hughes, who dealt played zombie as little Gage in Pet Sementary, is quite good as our hero who has past. But, the real highlight, for me, was the gorgeous Evalena Marie. She plays a tough, badass, at times bitchy heroine in Tori. Plus, she looks fucking hot as hell in her denim shorts and cowboy boots. I, dear readers, was in love.

There is also some pretty good gore including flesh-eating, bloody squibs, impalings, and fingers getting sliced off. It has a good pace, but like I said before; there is the whole feeling of I've been here and done this, and done this better. So while it ain't boring, it won't really hold much of your interest either. Well, other than any time that we can get look at Marie's great legs, anyway.

I can't really say that this movie is worth catching. It's not horrible, it's not good. It's sort of just there.

Hot Asian Girl of the Month: Eihi Shiina

It's finally October, my favorite month of the year! Why?Well, causee of all the horror, monster, and scary things love that only happens with the coming of Halloween! So, for this special time of year, I wanted to pick a babe that best represents it. And, so I picked the beautiful horror actress Eihi Shiina!

This Japanese beauty was born on February 3, 1976. She is from Fukouka, Japan.

In 1995, she began to model for Benetton. She represented Japan in Elite Model Look 95. She would go on to do more magazine work.

Her first role came in 1988 in the film Open House. I must admit knowing nothing about this movie. I never even heard of it, until doing the research for this post.

It's her third film, though, that gave her fame. She plays the villain in Audition, perhaps' Takashi Miike's most well known movie. It remains one of his best films and one of my favorite movies. Shiina is awesome in it, eliciting both a submissive and frail beauty and then turning into a psychotic and deadly killer. The movie is undeniably a modern classic, and it truthfully would not have worked as well had it not been for the amazing and beautiful Shiina.

Although, she would do other films, Shiina's main fame, at least as far as movie audiences outside of Japan go, would come in the form of horror movies. The awesome and fun Tokyo Gore Police, had her in the lead role. And, she may have looked more beautiful than ever! Plus, the movie allowed her to whoop some ass. Which is always hotter, in my book!

Eihi played the mother (MILF!) of the titular Vampire girl in the silly and over-the-top but very fun and ultra-gory, Vampire Girl Vs. Frankenstein Girl. It's a cool little flashback where she appears in, and as a fan I was happy to see her in this.

2010 gave us two movies with her. The first was Yakuza flick Outrage where she played a call girl(!!!). The other is Helldriver where she plays the zombie queen. I ain't seen these, but I hope to change that.

Shiina is a stunning and lovely actress with a beautiful face and porcelain skin. She always gives a great performance in any of her roles. She has done a few horror conventions here and there. I hope she does eventually pay one of the cons here in the eastcoast. It would be an honor to meet his amazing horror beauty.

Dead Hooker in a Trunk

Two beautiful twins, a Badass sexy one (Sylvia Soska) and a Geek(y) hot one (Jen Soska), and their two friends, the Bible-thumping Goody-Two Shoes (C.J. Wallis) and the hard rocking Junkie (Rikki Gagne), find a dead hooker (Tasha Moth) in their trunk. Shit starts going from bad to worse for them, as they confront chainsaw and machete wielding criminals (maybe they watched Friday the 13th and Scarface one too many times), a crazy cowboy pimp, and a serial killer. All the while they try to keep their act together and not let things fall apart for them.

This low-budget indie flick is the debut from the lovely and talented Soska sisters who do a great job despite the multiple hats that they wear in the movie. It moves at a nice pace and is so clearly fun and enjoyable, it's hard not to love it.

The acting ranges from good to adequate. The four leads in particular do a fine job with their roles. For the most part you like their characters. Badass comes off as a bitch many times, but she's meant to. And, even she has moments where you can't help but cheer her on. It also helps that the twins are extremely beautiful. I think you will find your new horror crushes in the Soska sisters, dear readers and friends.

It's actually quite a funny and thoroughly enjoyable movie throughout it's running time. I really like that the humor is quite dark, even necrophilia is thrown in for good measure! There are also some pretty dark and brutal moments, that keep you on your toes and remind you that you are watching a genre piece, and good one at that.

The gore FX are well enough done. There is chainsaw arm cutting, violent beat-downs, torture, head-shots, and other sanguinary slaughter to make sure the gorehounds stay happy.

In all this Canadian, black comedy mix of gore and action is one of my favorite indie/ underground horror films in quite a while. It certainly ranks along the best of this year's genre releases. Plus, I think it has one of the greatest titles in the history of cinema (which has also drawn some controversy for it at festivals, so I have read). I think the Soska sisters have a great future in the genre, and I totally await their next project, American Mary (with the lovely Katherine Isabelle of Ginger Snaps fame).
