Toy Fair 2013 Pt. 2

One of the most impressive toys I saw all three days, was one I saw early on on Sun: this KILLER Batman 12" doll, from YesAnime. It's really quite impressive and based on a Jim Lee design. These pics don't do it justice as it's beautiful and fully articulated. Shit, even the cape is articulated!! It's like a fully possible statue! Amazing!! 

 

They also had some cute toys including a whole line of Spongebob, amongst their other lines.

 Damn! That Plankton can be a total dick sometimes, stealing crabby patties and whatnot!

They also have a series of upcoming Happy Tree Friends toys!! Gore and cute animal cartoons! Two things that go so fucking awesome together!!

If your a fellow Dragonball Z fan, then you are gonna love these action figures from BanDai! All of them are out expect for Goku and Freeza. The posiblity is fucking incredible on these guys!

 

 

Mezco meanwhile, reminds us just how fuckin awesome Thundercats are. OK, I really don't need anyone to remind me, but I do need this Mumm-Ra statue!!

While, I have never watched Breaking Bad, I know it has lots of fans. All of which will be crapping themselves when they see these bad boys! Besides, everyone needs a meth dealer/ cooker to add their collection, right?

 

Just in case your girlfriend's teddy bear needs a good meth dealer!

And, now for my fellow horror fans, Mezco have a whole bunch of cool shit for lovers of the macarbe.

The Dark Knight Rises

Eight years after the events in The Dark Knight, Gotham City is seemingly a better place. Batman, aka billionaire Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), has taken all the blame for Harvey "Two-Face" Dent's crimes and has retired. In the meantime, to help Wayne Enterprises, he hands over power to the lovely Miranda Tate (Marion Cotillard). But, a terrorist known as Bane (Tom Hardy) begins to terrorize Gotham City. Soon, Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) and Officer Blake (Joesph Gordon-Levitt), who has deduced who Batman really is, implore Bats to comeback. He is joined, sort of, by pretty cat burglar Selina Kyle, IE Catwoman (Anne Hathaway). But, after a brutal battle with the vicious Bane, Bats is left decimated and Gotham soon falls to Bane's might. Can the Dark Knight save Gotham City from doom?

This film has become a huge hit and is to be the end of the Nolan Bats trilogy. It's gotten a ton of props. But is it worth it? Well yes... And no.

First off, let me start with what I liked. And, that would be Bane. And, only Bane. Between this and Warrior Hardy has become with my favorite actors. He OWNS every scene he is. But, there in lies a major problem, as he is the only truly interesting character in the movie. Yes, even Bats fails to be truly captivating.

I also enjoyed the action scenes. One thing Nolan does much better than Burton ever did is he is much better at doing action scenes. There is a wild and exciting climax, as well as the the first encouter between Bane and Batman that hold your interest. But, other than that...

First off, comes the film's biggest issue which  is the focus on Gordon-Levitt's character. Why the hell should I care about this damn cop from Gotham City?! I paid to see a fucking Batman movie, not some fuckin cop flick. Don't get me wrong, Levitt is a good actor. Shit, (500) Days of Summer is one of my favorite movies, but seriously this is The Dark Knight Rises NOT (500) Days of Some Cop in Gotham City! There's a twist/ revelation/ ending with him that shits on DC's a character(s). Fuck that.

While, Hathaway is pretty she is too vanilla and lacks any real sexuality and edge to be Catwoman. Sorry, guys, but I haven't cared for her since she showed her tits in Havoc, this didn't change that. Oh, and Bale is a great actor, but there wasn't enough of him as Batman. This in a movie that is already TOO fuckin long!! On top of that Batman's recovery is ridiculous, to say the very least.

That said, I did enjoy it, well the parts that didn't piss me off/ annoy me anyway. And, I understand Nolan's universe is NOT the real DC Universe. That's fine. I like the firs two, but both, especially The Dark Knight, are better movies than this one. In that film the Joker and Batman are equally interesting. The same cannot be said here. A good film for sure, but not great, not by any stretch of the words. And, certainly NOT on the level of Marvel's The Avengers.

The Top 10 Opening Themes or Intros To TV Shows

Back in the 80s opening themes to TV series were at their best. These days aside from a few, like True Blood (which barely missed out from making it on this list), are pretty forgettable. These ten represent the very best, whether through their song, the narrating, or both I always fondly remember these. Enjoy and give me your favs, I would love to know what they are!



10. Tales from the Darkside- From the creepy music to the awesome and unforgettable narration this one has long been one of my favs. I find myself always, ever since I was a child, reciting it. I simply LOVE it!





9. Thundarr the Barbarian- I've discussed the awesomeness of the show, before. And, this intro with it's driving score and awesome narration freaked me out, as a kid!





8. The X-Files- This classic sci-fi/ horror show had a theme I loved humming too. The final words, like "Trust No One" and others were cool as hell. Season finales, many times had a new phrase. Even my mom would tell me how much she liked this song.

BONUS POINTS: I once heard about a stripper dancing to a remix of this song. Considering Mulder's (and David Duchovny's, the actor who played him) love for porn, that totally fits!





7. Monday Night Raw 2007- Out of all the openings for Raw this one remains the best. It summed up what was the earliest part of the the great Attitude Era. Fitting with the more aggressive violence, ampped up cursing, and in your face sexual content this Biohazard type metal song intro gets you pumped up and lets you know what you are in for.





6. Aqua Teen Hunger Force- The catchiest of all intros of the last fews years, this is one I love signing to. They have changed it as the they renamed the show. And, while that one is good, this one is still the best! By the way, a lot of the videos posted are different variations or edits of the song on youtube, so this is the best I could come up with:





5. ECW- There is no doubt in my mind that WCW & WWF/E (& TNA, currently) ripped off a great deal from the late, great ECW. Failed attempts at them bringing them back and all, nothing touches this organization. Their opening theme was hard and driving and the clips showcased the violence, wildness, technicality (of the wrestling, I mean), and sexuality of the show. I love this song so much it's on my fucking I-Pod, so that should tell you everything.





4. The Twilight Zone- Much like the aforementioned Tales from the Darkside, I knew this one's narration since I was a kid. Also, the music to me, was something I always hummed whenever something weird occurred. I think, it will always be synonymous with weirdness. And, of course, the greatness of this classic sci-fi show.





3. Batman: The Animated Series- This is one of the greatest cartoon series of all time. And, from the intro you knew it would be dark and not campy. Plus, it had the great score from Burton's Batman, whose driving and powerful sound I loved since I first heard it as a kid. Awesome.





2. Transformers (Generation 1, Season 3)- This seasons featured some of the best and worst episodes of the show. But, it also featured THE best version of the classic theme song. I simply LOVE this song!! I fucking always sing along to it, to this very day!





1. Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors- And, for the very best song. Note, I said song, NOT TV show or toon. As as show it's probably OK, at best (well now looking at it as an adult, anyway), but this song still kicks ass. It's a wonderful 80s rock tune, that you sing along and rock out to. The narration is OK, as well, I suppose. By the way, as a kid, I liked this song so much I recorded it off of the TV and on to tape. Not a joke!

My 5 Favorite Superhero Films of All Time

Hellboy II came out last weekend (still need to see it), and this Friday, The Dark Knight comes out. Both have the chance of being one of the greatest superhero films, ever. But, in honor of that, I give to you, my top five and the reasons, they are in my top five.

1. - As I have mentioned before here, I was never an Iron Man, that is until I saw this film. The character was bought to life perfectly. A womanizing, alcoholic, ass-kicker, and rich guy that saves the world. What is there not to like? The acting is great, the script excellent, the action awesome, the FX killer. The pacing is perfect. In all this is a perfect film. I mean I must have geekgasmed, God knows how many times. The best superhero film, ever. End of story.

2. - This would be king, had not been for a little bit of a slow start, but mostly because of Katie Holmes, who has ZERO acting talent. She really is what stops this film from being perfect. That said, the movie is dark and stunning, with some great villains, acting, set design, action, and dialogue. Plus, Bale IS Batman.

3. - What can be said about a sequel that tops the excellent original? The character interaction is great. I love Wolverine going all berserker. And, there are lots of hotties, including, one of my favs, Kelly Hu. An awesome movie, that sadly, was followed by a disappointing third film. In fact the only that sux in this film is Halle Berry.

4. - This could have been a train wreck, but the killer FX and action give it a must see quality, as does the acting (well with one exception...). This and the sequel got the persecution of the X-Men, right. But, Berry sux in this one, too.

5. T- Now, I know some of you, if not most of you, are shocked at this pick, but hey this is my list, right? First and foremost Punisher is my fav superhero, period. And, with that said, sure this film changed some shit from Frank Castle's origin like making him an FBI agent and moving the action from New York (where most Marvel Comics take place) to Florida, but one change was good, IE, killing ALL his family, not just wife and two kids. Thomas Jane WAS the Punisher, in this film, much in the same way Robert Downey Jr. IS Iron Man. Much, of the film is taken from the classic Welcome Back Frank storyline. The humor was in the book, as was the supporting cast of Frank's neighbors. The graphic violence helps to give this highly underrated film an extra-kick in the ass. Not very excited for the reboot picture that comes out later this year, though...
